#WHEN PUTTING HDMI FROM MAC TO TV HOW TO EXTEND SOUND 1080P#
One last note, full 1080p resolution can only be achieved by using your MacBook in "clamshell" mode. I believe that not all HDTVs will allow you to output sound because most can only export sound and can't have sound imported through the digital optical cable. If you are trying to hookup your macBook directly to your HDTV, you will need to check some sort of advanced settings in order to designate that you want to receive audio from a different source than the HDMI but still allow the picture to show through the HDMI. I changed the settings on the receiver to accept the image through the selected HDMI and to receive the sound through the selected Digital Optical connection. Meaning that the TV can output the sound from the television but the television cannot receive a sound signal from another source. I couldn't hook up my TV to accept the sound directly from my MacBook due to the fact that the TV only had a digital "out" and not "in". The optical cable has an adapter that lets it hook up to the headphone jack in my MacBook. The image is sent through an HDMI cable and the sound through a Digital Optical cable. I hooked up my MacBook to my Panasonic HDTV through my Onkyo surround sound receiver. Click on the second monitor (your TV) and make sure the settings look similar. On the right side of the menu, you’ll see a bunch of settings. A window should pop up with a menu on the left that looks similar to the one below. Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone might have. So, first off, right click on your desktop and click on Nvidia Control Panel. I'm basically setting this up so that I can use the TV for a display when watching movies through either renting on iTunes or just as a general display. If you think this may not work is there another configuration that I could use? So basically will a headjack cable to the red/white audio in work eventhough the video will be going through an HDMI input. Will this setup provide audio through the TV speakers, or will it not work because the TV will be set on HDMI and not the input the audio is connected to? I'm hoping that it will, but to test it out I need to buy the necessary cables. I know that the audio requires a standard audio jack out of the headphones, and then into the audio in on the back of the TV using the red/white cables. The question I have is how to get the audio to play through the tv speakers. Therefore I can just set the TV to HDMI and hopefully get my macbook on there. I'm going to connect the TV to the macbook using a miniDVI-DVI adapter and a DVI-HDMI cable into the tv.

What I'm planning to do is use my 37" Sharp Aquos LCDTV as an external display for my white Macbook. I've got a question that someone could hopefully help me with.
